A friend is working in Somerville and I was in Cambridge. Where should we go? I checked with one friend and was told Gargoyles. Great idea, except it is closed.
So how does the Restaurant Guy locate a new place in a foreign nation? I put it on Facebook!
Anybody have a restaurant recommendation for Davis Square, please? Thanks in advance. Within minutes, a friend responded with Foundry on elm or posto.
Foundry on Elm is located in Davis Square in Somerville.
The public area is rectilinear, and there are many smaller areas inside. There’s the tastefully decorated bar, a seating area adjacent to the bar for large or small groups, a large number of high top tables, and a good sized restaurant in the rear.
We opted to sit at a high top table, and were quickly greeted by a waitress offering complementary filtered still or sparkling water. The menu was interesting, with a Charcuterie Plate catching our eye.
I really like places offering small plate options. Take various types of cured meats, pâté, bread, cheese, cornichons, baguette and a really good Dijon mustard — and some wine - and you have the recipe for a nice evening.
The wine was particularly of note. An Oregon Solena Pinot Gris. I wish I was as talented as the person writing the description on their website, “Inviting bright clear color with a touch of green hues. The nose is sweet and floral with notes of orange blossom, vanilla, honeysuckle and graham crackers. Juicy exotic fruits are adding to the taste with flavors of lemon and passion fruit then lingers with white pear and finishes with a crisp citrucy, almost mineral character, that shows its 100% Willamette Valley origin.” All I can say is very tasty, and a nice complement to our Charcuterie Plate.
As the evening progressed the restaurant grew quite busy. Service never suffered, and the music was raised to help with the overall noise level.
Overall, with great service, an energetic and interesting ambiance and decent food, Foundry on Elm was a great recommendation.
